Pdf Summary
Giving Voice to Values (GVV) is an approach to leadership and ethics education developed by Dr. Mary C. Gentile. It focuses on empowering individuals to effectively act on their values in business and educational settings rather than persuading them to be more ethical. GVV offers guidance on implementing ethical actions by asking, "What if I were going to act on my values? What would I say and do? How could I be most effective?"

The GVV curriculum is housed at the University of Virginia-Darden School of Business and was initially launched by the Aspen Institute and Yale School of Management. It was supported by Babson College from 2009 to 2016. It has been utilized in over 1,490 institutions worldwide, including educational sectors like business schools and industries like engineering, law, and medicine.

GVV has been part of the United Nations Global Compact PRME programming for responsible management education. There have been specific initiatives, such as anti-corruption programs in India and ethical leadership courses for engineers, offered through platforms like Coursera, the Online Ethics Center for Engineering and Science, and others. The program also has adaptations for the African continent, media ethics, and other regional applications.

Prominent organizations adopting GVV include Lockheed Martin, Unilever, KPMG, and the European Commission, among others. GVV's creator, Mary Gentile, has been recognized with numerous awards, including induction into the Thinkers50 Hall of Fame and other accolades for her contributions to business ethics and leadership education.

The program's materials, including books, interactive modules, and an online course, aim to make ethical behavior in business more practical and accessible. GVV's impact is further extended by its adaptable nature, allowing customization for different educational and corporate settings.
