The webinar, hosted by the American Accounting Association, explored certifications beyond the CPA for accounting students. Panelists from IMA, IIA, and tax practice discussed how credentials like the FMAA, CMA, IAP, and EA can broaden career pathways, build student confidence, and signal job readiness to employers. Speakers emphasized that these certifications are often accessible while students are still in school and can be used as “stackable” steps toward larger professional goals.  <br /><br />Mary Patterson explained that IMA’s FMAA and CMA can fit naturally into accounting and finance coursework, especially managerial and cost accounting. Desiree Rivera highlighted the IAP as an affordable, globally recognized internal audit credential that also serves as a stepping stone to the CIA. Chris described the EA as a powerful tax credential that can help students enter tax practice and, in some cases, be completed before graduation if programs are sequenced well.  <br /><br />A major theme was awareness: many students do not know these options exist unless faculty introduce them. The panel encouraged departments to use guest speakers, webinars, student clubs, and endorsement programs to connect curriculum with certifications and career opportunities.
